Happy New Year!
We've been able to meet a lot of great people in Pasadena! One place we've been able to do this is City Hall. There's a huge Christmas tree there and a few benches surrounding it. One time we went by City Hall to meet someone for a lesson. They weren't showing up or answering their phone, it was getting dark, and we needed dinner. After a while we decided to head home. Right as we start driving, we get a call saying she forgot but is on her way to the lesson. So we went back, and as we are walking back someone looks at us and asks if we are the Mormons. We say we are then he looks at the ground and says he needs help.
We had a long discussion with him. Much of his family had turned against him. We said what we could to help him and he went on his way. He chose to not meet with us again but I sure hope that he's doing well.
Another great place to meet new friends is "by the liquor store". We are teaching someone nearby, so we go there often
And we carry chairs so we can meet outside. A few people have stopped us saying things like "you look like you're going somewhere important" or "you look like some respectable gentlemen". It turns out that people are much more willing to talk with you while you are carrying chairs 🤔
And we carry those chairs often these days. We are always wearing masks and keeping distance and all of that, especially important for us since we'll talk to different groups of people. This past week we came into contact with someone who tested positive for covid, so we are quarantined until we get a negative test result. We had masks and are nearly certain that we don't have it, but the next couple of days we'll be inside.
Which means we get to find people to teach on Facebook! A while back I felt an impression to friend a specific random person on Facebook. A couple weeks later we started talking and he is a great man working to turn his life around. I passed him off to some Elders who live closer to him this week, but I hope to stay in contact with him.
